The regiment is the result of a 2006 amalgamation of a number of regiments:

• Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
• The Black Watch Regiment
• The Royal Highland Fusileers
• The Royal Scots
• The Kings Own Scottish Borderers
• The Highlanders
